The Winter League was developed from BCSDN’s original ‘Gaelic4Girls’ format which then matured into the ‘GAA Girls U14-16 Winter League’. This league was shaped in 2011 with only nine teams taking part in the beginning.
Fast forward six years later and now twenty nine teams are participating, with at least six of these being new teams formed within Antrim. The self-funded programme is aimed at developing and upskilling the younger generation of ladies GAA. The project has reached over 400 girls from the ages of 12-16 years old from its first primary programme. This year alone, there were 29 teams involved, 479 games played, 5840 minutes of Gaelic Football played and over 300 girls attending weekly!
This year BCSDN decided to further develop the Winter League and provide various workshops on areas like CPR and Health and Nutrition, which were made available to both children and parents throughout the nine weeks. These workshops were designed to promote positive health messages as well as upskill individuals.
