With summer programmes complete and schools yet to begin, we took the opportunity to take a staff training week at the end August!
We completed the 'ENGAGE' Men's Health Training Course which was led by Finian Murray on behalf of Men's Health Ireland. The course was a very enjoyable one, constructed over the one day with plenty of engaging and team activities to get us thinking about the everyday difficulties that many men face in today's society. Everyone gained valuable information that they feel they can use going forward both in the workplace and in personal situations. Thanks to Finian for an enjoyable and worthwhile day! #importanttotalk
The remainder of the week was spent at the Belfast Activity Centre. BCSDN and BAC are extremely excited about the opportunity to work closely together in the near future with both organisations sharing similar visions with developing people in mind! BCSDN were split into 2 teams, with one caving and the other climbing. The first 2 days were spent getting to grips with how to lead sessions. The caving team enjoyed the experience despite the sore knees and elbows as they tried to remember the countless routes that can be taken inside the caves. Meanwhile, the climbers had twists and turns to take in themselves; learning how to tie the ropes safely and correctly!
On the final day of training the 2 teams were put through their paces as St. Josephs College year 8's attended the Activity Centre for their team bonding residential day The BAC team were impressed with the BCSDN team as they used the skills they had learnt in training to safely lead and assist the sessions throughout the day!
Our eager team will continue to train for these activities in the coming weeks and months. A huge thanks to the BAC team for their time throughout the week, we are looking forward to working with them more often in the future!!
