We organised a danderball tournament at the Shankill Leisure Centre on October 31st in memory of our former colleague Colin Smyth (Smickers) who passed away 10 years ago.
It was a great turnout as 8 teams, all from different areas and of various ages, competed in an action packed morning of walking football. During the group stage, each team played each other once before the best four placed teams advanced to the semi final stages! In this case, it was Avoneil, both Ard's l's & ll's and Stephen Smyth's Team! A passionate but fair Ard's derby had to be decided by a penalty shoot-out which went to an extended sudden death with Ard's l's coming out on top. Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, a youthful Smickers side had too much for the experienced Avoneil team! A hard fought final was again decided on penalties as the impressive Ard's side luck finally ran out with Smickers Team victorious!
Thanks to everyone who attended. You helped raise over £350 for MacMillan Cancer Support! #Danderball #MacMillanCancerSupport
Another positive from the day was that the Avoneil and Shankill teams got to wear their new danderball kits for the first time. These teams will be wearing these kits at any of the tournaments they attend in the near future!
