We are delighted to be working with the BIG LOTTERY FUND over the next 2 years on our S4D hubs project!
BCSDN's CEO, Peter Shaw says, "It’s fantastic that Big Lottery Fund through ‘People and Communities’ have supported BCSDN over the next 2 years to do development work in 4 localities in the Northern Trust region. We have established local action groups in each area that will advise and direct what programmes we will be delivering. We hope these programmes empower new leaders and help create healthier and more shared communities."
Thank you to National Lottery players for helping make our project possible!
We spent 3 days of our training week at the Belfast Activity Centre! Our team was split into 2 groups with one doing caving and the other doing the high ropes climbing!
On the first 2 days, the BAC team taught us the basics and how to lead sessions before we were put to the test on the Friday! St. Joseph's College were the lucky lot to enjoy these activities led by our rookie team!
Training will continue throughout the next few weeks for our keen bunch!
Thanks to the BAC team, we look forward to working closely with them in the future!!
Our team completed the one day 'Engage' Men's Health training programme. Finian Murray led the session on behalf of Men's Health Ireland. It provided a detailed insight into the issues that many men suffer from on a daily basis.
We participated in group activities and discussions to gain a clearer understanding of how important our role is in helping men to speak out about their problems with confidence. Everyone received a certificate upon completion!
Thanks to Finian for an enjoyable and beneficial day!
Some of our Sport 4 Development Facilitators were in St Paul's Primary & Nursery School delivering multi sports sessions for the past four weeks. These sessions provided the children with the opportunity and confidence to learn and develop new skills in various team sports. Massive thank you to the school for having us & to all the children who got involved.
We delivered a fantastic programme in Maghaberry Prison with the NI Prison Service last month. The ‘Fit Future’ Programme allows prisoners the opportunity to gain qualifications & new skills! This course is equivalent to a GCSE in healthy living. Ulster Rugby Official star Jacob Stockdale also came along and answered questions from the prisoners as part of a small celebration event to awknowledge their completion of the course. Well done to everyone involved!
We were nominated for the 'Community Diversity Award' for the Greater Shankill BEST Awards this year! We were delighted to receive recognition for the ten years that we have been working in this community. We had a fantastic night in the Europa Hotel on May 6th celebrating with all of the other finalists and hear about all the other inspiring work being delivered across the Greater Shankill. Congratulations to winners- 'R City' on taking home the trophy!
We hope everyone had a good Easter break & is recovering well from all the chocolate eggs! Before the break we supported the Over 50s Health Event at Belvoir Community Centre! This event involved a variety of older persons groups from the South Belfast area (approx. 90 people) We have worked with the “Up & At It!” group from Belvoir for several months now involving them in activities ranging from Boccia, Chi Mi and healthy eating workshops. We even had a special visitor join us! Lord Mayor Nuala Mc Allister decided to give chair based activity a go....we think she did brilliant! A fantastic day laid out by the South Belfast Health Forum- thanks for having us.
After the success of our Winter League we are delivered an all Girls U12 Gaelic Blitz for the Active, Fit & Sporty Expedition with the Female Sports Forum this month. We were honoured to be part of a great week empowering females in sport & physical activity. The U12 Girls Gaelic Blitz took place in Dunville Park, Belfast. Thanks to Colin Gaels, Naomh Gall, Naomh Pól & Rossa for coming along & taking part- we hope you enjoyed it!
