Over the course of 6 months BCSDN are delivering a programme specifically for those aged 50+. The project is called KEY 16 (Keep Empowering Yourself) and aims to develop the capacity for community groups to run their own programmes. BCSDN have teamed up with WISPA, ACTIVE BELFAST & MENS HEALTH FORUM to deliver this project.
S4D Facilitators will work with 16 males and females from Belfast and upskill them to be able to go out and deliver physical activity sessions. Throughout the programme BCSDN will provide opportunities for each volunteer to achieve coaching & leadership qualifications, attend coach development workshops and complete 10 hours of peer mentoring. The KEY 16 Volunteers will also receive a uniform, coaching equipment & will enjoy a two day residential break to celebrate the end of the programme.
The hope for the programme is that the KEY 16 volunteers will be able to support their community groups with their coaching & activity needs instead of hiring in a coaching service. BCSDN hope to offer the volunteers casual coaching hours through the company as they will be highly skilled by the end of the programme. The programme will be hosted in Belfast Activity Centre and will run every Monday morning up until 11th December and continue again after Christmas.
