The All Stars programme has been developed over the past numbers of years and targets children at Key Stage 2. The structured sports coaching is delivered at the participating Primary School and will offer children an opportunity to play a sport not perceived to be a part of their background or a minority sport, for example, gaelic games, rugby, cricket or Olympic handball. Throughout 2016/17, two All Stars programmes were delivered and eight primary schools took part. During the time we worked with 162 children. The All Stars main aim is to encourage children to continue on with sport as they go through life. We are putting the message across that sport is inclusive, enjoyable and there is a sport for everyone!
Each programme culminated in a celebration event where the children showcased their new sports skills and knowledge of other sports in a fun, participatory and friendly environment. BCSDN plan to roll out this programme beyond Belfast and include a 'BCSDN Upskilling Teachers Package' as part of the programme to leave a 'Sport for Development' legacy.
